Lead / Senior Avionics Engineer (Satellites / Spacecraft)

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States

Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

Package: Competitive Salary + Equity + Benefits + Flexible PTO

Are you an Avionics Engineer with strong experience across spacecraft electrical systems, PCB design, and integration, looking to take ownership of full system delivery?

On offer is the opportunity to join a high-growth space company building next-generation satellite platforms through advanced computational engineering. You’ll lead the design, development, and integration of avionics systems across complete spacecraft builds, ensuring reliable, flight-ready electrical architectures.

Join a team redefining satellite engineering with a first-principles approach, combining rapid design iteration, hardware integration, and system-level optimisation. You’ll work across electrical interfaces, RF systems, power architecture, and environmental validation, owning avionics from concept through to test and delivery.

This position would suit a hands-on avionics engineer who enjoys both deep technical work and leadership responsibility, someone comfortable designing, building, and validating real spacecraft hardware.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead spacecraft electrical interface design, integration, and testing, including PCB and harness design

* Design and develop avionics subsystems and flatsat test environments

* Lead RF integration and testing, including radios, emulators, and ground station simulation

* Develop EMI/EMC and magnetics control strategies, including grounding schemes and environmental test plans

* Manage spacecraft power budgets, communications architecture, and protocol selection

* Develop and own electrical integration procedures across spacecraft builds

* Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate avionics with broader spacecraft systems

* Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements

* Mentor junior engineers and drive engineering best practices

Essential Skills and Experience

* Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar

* 5+ years of experience in spacecraft avionics design, assembly, and testing

* Strong expertise in PCB design, harness design, and systems-level electrical engineering

* Proficiency with EDA tools (Altium, KiCad, Eagle, or similar)

* Experience with aerospace standards (e.g. NASA GEVS or similar)

* Experience working in cleanroom environments and adhering to ESD protocols

* Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers and driving delivery

* Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail
