Senior Ground Segment Engineer

  • Hybrid/Remote in Europe (with travel to client site across Europe)


NewSpace Technical are hiring for a Senior Ground Segment Engineer. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of ground station infrastructure across multiple locations. This includes RF systems, digitization chains, signal transport networks, secure connectivity, and site operations. You will work across engineering, infrastructure, and compliance functions to support mission-critical assets for strategic initiatives. The role involves technical leadership, hands-on project execution, and coordination with various stakeholders including vendors, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

  • Define and refine technical architecture for new ground stations, encompassing RF subsystems, digitization, signal transport, and security.

  • Participate in the evaluation and prototyping of emerging ground segment technologies.

  • Ensure deployed systems meet operational performance and reliability requirements.

Site & Deployment

  • Identify and evaluate third-party antenna sites for integration into the network.

  • Conduct or oversee site surveys covering technical and regulatory aspects.

  • Manage procurement, integration, and deployment of ground segment equipment.

  • Supervise commissioning, testing, and transition to operations.

Operations & Monitoring

  • Develop and maintain systems for remote monitoring and operational readiness.

  • Implement and oversee maintenance, incident response, and system upgrade procedures.

  • Create and maintain operational documentation and SOPs.

  • Oversee ongoing monitoring of antenna and network performance.

Program & Vendor Coordination

  • Support coordination of ground infrastructure projects, ensuring timelines, scope, and quality standards are met.

  • Manage technical interactions with vendors, integrators, and other partners.

**Travel Requirement**
This position includes regular international travel for site surveys, deployment, and operational support.

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • 5-10 years of experience in ground station or satellite systems engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in full ground station lifecycle: from design to deployment and operations

  • Strong knowledge of RF systems, antenna configurations, link budgets, and data transport

  • Familiarity with satellite communication protocols (e.g., DVB-S2/S2X, CCSDS)

  • Understanding of networking and secure infrastructure (e.g., VLANs, VPNs, DMZs)

  • Experience working with national or international regulatory bodies

  • Strong ownership, problem-solving ability, and independent work style

  • Fluency in English

Nice to Haves

  • Experience supporting sensitive or mission-critical deployments

  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, software-defined radios, and virtualized environments

  • Exposure to large-scale antenna systems, RF monitoring tools, or teleport operations

  • Experience managing multi-site, multi-vendor projects under time constraints
