Software Integration Engineer (Sensors / Actuators)
Location: Hawthorne, California, United States
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Package: $125,000 – $175,000 Base + Equity + Benefits + Flexible PTO

Are you passionate about robotics, autonomy, and space exploration? This is your opportunity to develop the sensor software and integration systems that will guide robotic explorers across the lunar surface.

Join a pioneering company building autonomous ISRU systems for the Moon and Mars. You’ll design, integrate, and test the sensors that enable rovers to map, navigate, and extract resources from the harshest environments known, including permanently shadowed lunar craters.

You’ll work hands-on with rover hardware in the lab and at remote test sites, writing low-level sensor drivers and perception software that forms the backbone of off-world autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop serial drivers for sensors such as IMUs, star trackers, and cameras.
  • Integrate and test LIDAR, spectrometers, and IR sensors to support navigation and resource detection.
  • Build perception software supporting localization, mapping, and obstacle avoidance.
  • Support teleoperation systems through camera integration and interface development.
  • Test and optimize sensor performance under thermal-vacuum, radiation, and vibration conditions.
  • Conduct field tests at desert sites simulating lunar terrain and lighting conditions.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong programming ability in Python.
  • Hands-on experience working with sensors or robotic systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Exceptional engineering ability and cross-disciplinary problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in hands-on robotics work and field testing.
  • Must meet ITAR/EAR requirements (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience programming in C/C++.
  • Familiarity with ROS / ROS2 and robotic middleware.
  • Experience integrating serial devices (sensors, actuators) and deploying software in production.
  • Knowledge of space-rated testing environments and validation procedures.
  • Demonstrated excellence through academic performance or leadership experience.
