Lead Systems Engineer (Model-Based Systems Engineering)
Location:
Remote or Hybrid (Germany, Belgium, or Europe-based)

Satellite & Space Systems

Do you want to drive the transformation toward model-based systems engineering in a cutting-edge space technology environment?

Come join a dynamic and fast-growing company shaping the next generation of satellite systems and mission operations through digital engineering excellence.

About the Mission
Our client is an innovative NewSpace company dedicated to advancing satellite-based Earth observation and data intelligence. With a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and strategists across Europe and beyond, the company is scaling rapidly to build the future of space-based intelligence systems.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to lead the introduction and implementation of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) across the organisation.
In this strategic role, you will guide the transition from document-centric to model-driven engineering practices-improving consistency, traceability, and collaboration across spacecraft, ground systems, and operations projects. You will be the key driver in defining the MBSE framework, tools, and processes, ensuring alignment with both internal projects and external partners (including space agencies and industry collaborations).

Key Responsibilities
MBSE Strategy & Implementation

  • Define and lead the roadmap for MBSE adoption across technical teams.
  • Assess current systems engineering practices and identify improvement areas.
  • Specify requirements for MBSE tooling and methodologies (with a focus on SysML v2).
  • Evaluate, select, and deploy MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo, Capella, Enterprise Architect).

Model Development

  • Develop proof-of-concept system models covering satellite, ground segment, and operational concepts.
  • Enable model-based reporting and documentation (e.g., automated generation for Word/Excel).

Process Integration

  • Integrate MBSE into existing engineering workflows and toolchains.
  • Ensure compliance with document-based deliverables required by partners or agencies (e.g., ESA).

Training & Change Management

  • Identify training needs and coordinate MBSE upskilling programs.
  • Develop internal guidelines, templates, and best practices for model-based approaches.
  • Mentor and support teams throughout the MBSE transition.

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with systems, hardware, and software engineering teams to align models with real-world implementations.
  • Facilitate cross-team communication and ensure consistency between project domains.

Location
This role can be performed remotely or in a hybrid setup from Germany or Belgium. Occasional travel for workshops and collaboration may be required. Exceptional candidates across Europe may also be considered for full remote arrangements.

About You
Required:

  • Proven experience implementing MBSE in aerospace or other complex systems domains.
  • Strong working knowledge of SysML (preferably SysML v2) and MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo, Capella, Enterprise Architect).
  • Demonstrated success in introducing MBSE processes from the ground up.
  • Deep understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes.
  • Experience with model-to-document generation workflows and tool integrations (Word, Excel).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive cultural change.
  • Familiarity with ground segment systems or satellite operations is a plus.
  • Experience with ESA or other agency standards (ECSS) is advantageous.

Why Join

  • Lead the digital transformation of a cutting-edge satellite organization.
  • Collaborate with world-class experts in systems engineering and mission operations.
  • Flexible working environment with remote and hybrid options.
  • Competitive compensation and growth potential within a scaling international company.
  • Join a diverse, collaborative team committed to innovation, inclusion, and excellence.
