Lead Propulsion Engineer
Location: Brunswick, Maine
Package: $90,000 – $140,000 + Health + Stock Options + Relocation Package + Training Package + Progression

We are partnering with a pioneering aerospace company, renowned for its eco-friendly space propulsion technologies. This company specializes in developing hybrid propulsion systems for smallsat and cubesat markets and is supported by prestigious institutions such as NASA and MTI, alongside private investors. They are seeking a Lead Propulsion Engineer to spearhead the development and optimization of their innovative hybrid rocket propulsion systems.

As the company grows there will be a lot of opportunities for both technical and business leadership. This is an exciting role for someone to bring their technical propulsion knowledge to the organization and grow with this exciting start-up.

Your Role:
– Lead the design, build, and test of hybrid rocket propulsion systems.
– Oversee the development and optimization of propulsion systems, focusing on enhancing performance, safety, and reliability.

Responsibilities:
– Engage in detailed design and simulation, coordinate build and assembly processes, and perform hands-on testing and validation of rocket engines and components.
– Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to integrate propulsion systems with vehicle architectures.
– Troubleshoot and resolve engineering issues, provide technical leadership during launch campaigns, and contribute to continuous improvement of the propulsion system.

Required Qualifications:
– Minimum of a BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent engineering field.
– Proficiency in thermal management systems for aerospace applications, including heat transfer analysis and cooling system design.
– Expertise in MATLAB / Simulink (or similar software) for simulation, data analysis, and algorithm development specific to aerospace applications.
– Experience with structural analysis software for stress and vibration assessment.
– Skilled in CAD, drafting, and interpreting and implementing technical specifications and regulatory compliance guidelines for aerospace systems.
– Proficiency in propulsion system testing methodologies, including both static and dynamic testing environments.
– Experience with materials selection for high-stress and high-temperature propulsion applications.
– Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and composites.
– Demonstrated capability in leading R&D projects from conception through testing, including setting milestones, budgeting, and cross-functional team management.
– Extensive experience in the design and analysis of fluid dynamics as it pertains to rocket propulsion systems.
– Ability to lead projects involving the integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
– Experience in designing, building, and testing fluid or hybrid rocket propulsion systems.

Ideal Skills/Experience:
– Played a critical role in the design, build, test, and/or launch of commercial rockets.
– Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.
– Familiarity with National Instruments LabView (or similar) hardware and software for control and data acquisition.
– Proficiency in Siemens NX, ANSYS, Matlab, and LabView.
