Employment Type: Full-Time

New Space Technical is partnering with an innovative space technology company developing advanced spacecraft and autonomous systems for next-generation space missions. They are looking for a Senior Flight Software Engineer to lead the development of the embedded Linux platform powering mission-critical onboard computing systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to own the low-level flight software stack for a high-performance embedded computing platform supporting autonomy, communications, perception and control systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will develop reliable, high-performance software for deployment in demanding space environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and develop the embedded Linux flight software platform, including the Linux kernel, boot chain, Board Support Package (BSP) and device drivers.
  • Develop, maintain and extend Linux Board Support Packages for ARM-based embedded computing platforms.
  • Configure and manage device trees, pin multiplexing and hardware interfaces.
  • Develop interface software for peripherals including CAN, RS-485, USB, CSI and Ethernet-connected devices.
  • Design and maintain secure, reliable over-the-air software update capabilities.
  • Develop fault detection, fault recovery and system monitoring features to maximise software reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with flight software, autonomy, robotics and hardware engineers to integrate software across the complete system architecture.
  • Support software verification, integration, testing and deployment throughout the development lifecycle.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded Linux software at the kernel, driver or BSP level.
  • Deep understanding of the Linux kernel, boot process and embedded Linux architecture.
  • Experience developing and debugging device trees and hardware configuration for ARM-based platforms.
  • Strong experience working with serial communications, CAN and Ethernet interfaces.
  • 5+ years of professional experience programming in C.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience developing flight software or software for aerospace systems.
  • Experience developing software for autonomous, robotic or remotely operated platforms.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded computing platforms.
  • Experience with Linux file systems such as ZFS.
  • Experience developing high-reliability or fault-tolerant software.
  • Experience building software for safety-critical or mission-critical applications.
  • Proven track record of delivering robust software within fast-paced engineering environments.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive base salary of $155,000-$200,000, depending on experience.
  • Equity opportunity.
  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision benefits.
  • Paid Time Off.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge flight software supporting the next generation of space technologies and autonomous spacecraft.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work extended hours when required to support key project milestones.

Eligibility

Due to U.S. export control regulations, applicants must be eligible to work on U.S. export-controlled programmes. This typically includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), or individuals otherwise authorised to work on such projects.
