NewSpace Technical is proud to be partnered with an exciting and fast-growing European NewSpace company developing next-generation Earth Observation technologies. The company is pioneering advanced space-based sensing systems, combining innovative payloads with cutting-edge satellite platforms to deliver high-quality geospatial data from orbit.

With an ambitious roadmap and a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering culture, they are now looking to expand their team with an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to play a key role in the development of an innovative space-based LiDAR payload.

This is an opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle, from early concept and architecture through to qualification, integration, and flight, contributing to the development of complex electrical, power, and avionics systems that will support future Earth Observation missions.

The Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical development of a next-generation space LiDAR payload, taking ownership of the payload’s electrical architecture while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across systems, software, optics, mechanical engineering, and AIT.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of the electrical, power, and data systems for a space-based LiDAR payload
  • Designing and evolving electrical architectures for next-generation Earth Observation missions
  • Developing FPGA-based hardware implementations, integrating peripherals including DDR, Flash, EEPROM, ADCs, DACs, and high-speed transceivers
  • Supporting the development of payload timing and synchronisation systems to coordinate laser operation, imaging, and onboard UTC timing
  • Designing payload avionics along with power regulation and power distribution systems
  • Collaborating with external technology partners and suppliers to ensure subsystem performance meets overall mission requirements
  • Supporting flight hardware manufacturing, integration, testing, and environmental qualification campaigns
  • Identifying technical risks and supporting radiation and environmental analyses for spaceflight hardware
  • Performing circuit analysis, tolerance analysis, and simulation using industry-standard design tools
  • Preparing technical documentation including interface control documents, design descriptions, verification plans, test reports, and materials for programme reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR, FRR)

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with approximately 7+ years of relevant industry experience, or a Master’s/PhD with equivalent experience
  • Proven experience developing electrical systems for spacecraft or other high-reliability applications
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working within multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Key Skills & Expertise

  • Strong experience designing electrical systems for space applications through development, verification, and qualification
  • Knowledge of spacecraft electrical architectures, including power systems, avionics, and Command & Data Handling (C&DH)
  • Experience with FPGA-based hardware development and integration of memory, converters, and communication interfaces
  • Expertise in low-voltage power electronics, power distribution, and high-reliability electronic hardware
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces, grounding strategies, and EMC/EMI design principles
  • Ability to translate system-level requirements into robust electrical hardware designs
  • Experience producing engineering documentation to support design reviews and qualification activities

Desirable Experience

  • Experience developing LiDAR, laser-based, or advanced optical payload systems
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital circuit card assembly (CCA) design
  • Experience working with sensors, precision timing systems, or payload electronics
  • Familiarity with radiation analysis and designing electronics for the space environment
  • Previous involvement in environmental testing and spacecraft qualification campaigns
