Technical Project Manager (Space)

NewSpace Technical are looking to hire a Technical Project Manager for our NewSpace client. This is a full-time permanent position, based onsite their office in Belgium.
As a Technical Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing technical support operations across multiple space-related projects. You will ensures system readiness, regulatory compliance, and the effective resolution of technical issues to enable successful mission execution.
Key Responsibilities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the technical interface between project management, engineering, and operations teams.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and maintain comprehensive documentation of technical procedures and support protocols.
- Support internal reviews, audits, and readiness assessments across mission phases.
Technical Project Coordination
- Lead the planning and coordination of technical support activities across engineering, systems, and operations disciplines.
- Translate technical requirements into executable support plans aligned with project timelines and milestones.
- Drive timely resolution of technical issues impacting project progress or mission readiness.
Systems and Infrastructure Support
- Oversee the maintenance and operational performance of mission-critical systems such as ground stations, telemetry systems, and integration or test facilities.
- Coordinate system upgrades, testing, and troubleshooting of hardware and software components.
- Ensure system readiness during key mission phases, including integration, environmental testing, and launch.
Risk and Issue Management
- Identify, monitor, and escalate technical risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented.
- Maintain a detailed issue log and track resolution in collaboration with engineering leads.
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all technical support activities adhere to relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ECSS, ISO).
- Maintain accurate records of technical interventions, system modifications, and support activities.
Resource and Tool Management
- Manage technical support tools, diagnostic equipment, and associated software licenses.
- Coordinate internal training to enhance team capability and tool proficiency.
Reporting and Communication
- Provide regular updates on technical support status, risks, and performance metrics to internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare technical documentation, progress reports, and post-mission review summaries.
Readiness and Testing Support
- Lead technical support readiness for mission-critical activities, including integration, qualification, and launch campaigns.
- Coordinate simulations, dry runs, and test exercises to validate support procedures and ensure team preparedness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing technical projects in the Space Sector.
- Proven track record in coordinating cross-functional teams and delivering complex technical outcomes within budget and schedule.
- Exposure to the space or aerospace sector, including satellite systems, payload integration, or mission operations, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with regulated environments and industry standards (e.g., ECSS, ISO, national space agency frameworks).
- Experience in preparing and managing technical documentation, support logs, and compliance reports.
Technical Proficiency
- Skilled in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, ClickUp).
- Experience with technical platforms and design tools (e.g., MATLAB, STK, SolidWorks).
- Familiarity with ERP systems and reporting platforms.
Stakeholder Management
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with internal teams, external vendors, and international partners.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information for non-technical audiences.
Preferred Certifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification is advantageous
