Senior Electronic Hardware Design Engineer
Full-Time, Permanent
Glasgow, UK

We are looking for a Senior Electronic Hardware Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced electronic systems for satellite payloads and other space applications. From concept through to launch, you will architect and deliver high-reliability hardware designed to thrive in the harshest space environments.

If you’re driven by precision design, motivated by solving complex engineering problems, and eager to see your work launched into orbit, this is your opportunity to contribute meaningfully to cutting-edge space missions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in technical discussions and requirements analysis with customers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and interface with sub-contractors to resolve technical and manufacturing challenges.
  • Design and develop electronics for space-based systems, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuitry.
  • Create and review detailed design documentation, test procedures, and calibration tools.
  • Develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers and FPGA-based systems.
  • Translate system-level requirements into detailed sub-system specifications.
  • Research, model, and evaluate theoretical and conceptual hardware designs.
  • Select, test, and qualify electronic components for spaceflight applications.
  • Simulate and verify circuit performance under operational constraints.
  • Conduct hands-on testing, debugging, and validation of hardware prototypes.
  • Document all design phases and prepare production-ready documentation.
  • Manage project deliverables, timelines, and ensure alignment with technical and quality standards.
  • Monitor trends and emerging technologies in the space and electronics sectors.
  • Apply innovative approaches to improve product performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 5-10 years in high-reliability hardware design, including analog and digital circuit development, ideally within aerospace, defense, or high-tech industries.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, validation, and debugging of electronic hardware to meet strict performance criteria.
  • Proficiency in embedded software using C, C++, or Assembler.
  • FPGA development experience (preferably VHDL-based).
  • Familiarity with microcontroller-based system design.
  • Schematic and PCB design skills, ideally using Altium Designer or similar tools.
  • Project management experience, including timelines, budgets, and technical milestones.

Desirable Skills & Knowledge:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of space radiation effects on electronic components.
  • Experience with configuration or product lifecycle management platforms such as Siemens Teamcenter.
  • Background in aerospace or satellite systems development is a strong plus.
