Senior Motor Design Engineer
Location: El Segundo, California, United States
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Package: Competitive Salary + Stock Options + Premium Benefits + Flexible PTO
Are you a Senior Motor Design Engineer ready to take on a technically complex, hands-on role within a pioneering clean energy project?
On offer is the opportunity to lead the design and development of a high-speed, high-power alternator at the heart of a compact power generation system, enabling safe, zero-emissions energy delivery to off-grid and mission-critical locations. This is a unique chance to work on a first-of-its-kind clean energy platform, contributing directly to the commercialization of advanced, factory-built microreactors.
You’ll collaborate across electrical, thermal, packaging, and turbomachinery teams to design, build, and test cutting-edge rotating equipment that operates under extreme conditions.
This position would suit an experienced Motor Design Engineer with deep knowledge of electromagnetic systems and hands-on experience bringing motors or generators from concept through to testing.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design, integration, and testing of high-power alternators and primary loop motors.
* Perform electromagnetic design and thermal/structural analysis for high-speed rotating machinery.
* Own CAD modelling and 2D fabrication drawings (NX or similar) for motor/generator components.
* Work with suppliers to source critical components and manage build processes.
* Perform lab bench testing, dynamic validation, and full system integration of motor subsystems.
* Support rapid prototyping, hands-on assembly, and verification of high-voltage electric machinery.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (with a focus on power electronics).
* 5+ years of experience designing high-voltage, high-power electric motors or generators.
* Strong foundation in electromagnetic design and rotating equipment fundamentals.
* Proven expertise in permanent magnet motor design for 1kV+, 1MW+ applications exceeding 40,000 RPM.
* Familiarity with full design lifecycle-from concept to prototyping and test.
